Last week I read about a group called JobAngels on www.twitter.com. It doesn't take a person too long to figure out that this group has something to do with jobs and someone helping another person with their job search. You can read about the concept behind this idea in an article written in the Los Angeles Times. I joined because I found myself inadvertently doing this for a high school friend who has been looking for employment in the US since last summer. I started following the messages threads that would come out on Twitter and saw that there were career and recruiting experts donating their free time to help just one person in the job hunt. With so many people unemployed in the US and PR, I decided to make it a point to arm my friend with all of the FREE information I could find on the web. I did not want to dwell on the fact that she was unemployed, but chatted and laughed with her about high school memories. So what information did I send to her and how am I her JobAngel ? Here is a list of the information that I provided to her.

Finding a job can be exhausting; it can also be a lonely and frustrating time for any individual. So I ask you all who read this and are part of the Facebook group for CIMA Services, pick one person and help them with their job search. Give the gift of a CIMA Resume to one unemployed friend. You can also forward a resume to us for a FREE critique using the heading "JobAngel for CIMA Services" in an email to Lucy@cimapr.com. You can also go to www.cimaresumes.com for a FREE Interview Cheat Sheet and Interview Dress Guide.

Here is a list of the information that I provided to my friend:

JobRadio.fm

If you can go on the internet and listen to iTunes podcasts you can go to JobRadio.fm and listen to FREE career advice from recruiters and career coaching experts. Write down information these individuals are providing, go to websites they mention, and put into practice the advice they offer. Chris Russell, co-founder and creator of this site, also has a podcast on iTunes called Jobs in Pods. With Jobs in Pods, he talks to recruiters or hiring managers about what their company is looking for in a candidate. Please re-read that last sentence again. You can also join Secrets of the Job Hunt which is another FREE site for connecting job seekers and career experts.

Guerilla Marketing for Job Hunters by David E Perry and Jay Conrad Levinson

You can go to David E. Perry's blog site here or purchase his book to read about Guerilla job hunting tactics that you would never do. I was introduced to this site by a recruiter in Canada who has a talk show that has provided me lots of information on how to help job seekers. David E. Perry is a recruiter and he is telling you how to get around the red tape when submitting your resume. He is giving you FREE tips on his blog on ways to market your resume to hiring managers.

JibberJobber.com

Do not mistake this site for JibJab. Organizing your job search is a crucial part of the job hunt. Jason Alba, creator of the career management tool and author of two books has an interesting story about how he got fired. Here is a FREE tool that you can use to document recruiters, network, companies you are interviewing with, interview times/dates, your elevator pitch, etc. The first fourteen days you get to use the premium features for FREE, after that you can listen to webinars on how to use JibberJobber and read the blog.

About.com

This site is filled with experts on all subjects. My friend is looking for opportunities in the Health Careers industry because it is relevant to her work experience. So I told her to go to this site and check out a Health Careers expert by the name of Andrea Santiago. Another expert on About.com is an expert in job searching named Alison Doyle. You can sign up to participate in both of their forums, follow them on all the social networking sites, and receive weekly newsletters. All of this advice is for FREE.

LinkedIn

Creating a FREE profile with LinkedIn.com can connect you with over 900K recruiters and 30 million professional connections. LinkedIn might not be used by many recruiters in Puerto Rico, but if you are considering moving to the US, recruiters are using this site on a daily basis to find their candidates. Start by filling out your profile information, uploading your resume, and reading Jason Alba's book or blog about what to do with your LinkedIn profile. You can find two of our team members on LinkedIn.com.

Network

Find FREE ways to connect with experts in your industry by following them on www.Twitter.com or meeting up with successful friends for lunch. Have them review your resume and tell them what it is you want to do. Go over your S.W.O.T with them and let them add to your list. Go to local job fairs and if you get invited to a party, get ready to state your elevator pitch when someone asks you what you do for a living. In Puerto Rico that is the first thing I noticed that everyone asks you when they first meet you.

Remember one good deed will make someone smile.

"I have to thank CIMA for their services; the design and format of the resumes are excellent. They presented information, that I thought was non-important, in a way that it added a new value to my resume. The professionalism and commitment from CIMA was remarkable."
